Description
The Cock of Barcelos in aluminum and hand painted, a traditional item of Portuguese culture.
At a banquet hosted by a wealthy landowner in Barcelos, silver was stolen and a guest was accused of theft. He was tried by the court and found guilty, despite the overwhelming evidence against him, he still protested his innocence. The master gave the man a final chance to prove his case. Seeing a rooster in a nearby basket he said: "If I am innocent the rooster will crow". The cock crowed and the prisoner was released.
