Baptism course for parents and godparents

Why do we baptize our children? One of the responses that is most felt in our parishes is the influence of tradition: "I baptize my son, because one day my parents asked me to be baptized." Far from being a wrong answer, this statement is unable to encompass the true meaning of this sacrament.

The truth is that the previous preparations for Baptism are seen more as a requirement to be fulfilled than a true catechesis that leads to communion with Jesus Christ, this for several reasons: the brevity of the preparation, the tiredness which means for parents to attend these meetings, after an intense day of work, and other sociological factors.

This manual is intended to be of assistance to catechists and pastors who wish to adequately prepare parents and sponsors for the sacrament of Baptism.
