Original image of Our Lady of Fatima
With a little more than 1 meter and 19 kg, made in 1920 of cedar wood from Brazil, by the santeiro José Ferreira Thedim, the image was conceived from indications of Father Formigão, the first to interrogate the children on the Apparitions of Fatima.
However, in the 50's, the same sculptor would change it, on the pretext of the need to re-evaluate the condition of the piece and also after a conversation with Lúcia allowed him an artistic review. Thedim removed the small sandals he initially wore, simplified his robes and sharpened his face.
The Sanctuary of Fatima not only has an image of the Virgin of Cova da Iria. In response to the many requests from Catholic communities around the world, replica of the original 1920 image was used to expose the devotion of the faithful.
In total there are 12 images around the world with the concession approved by the Sanctuary of Fatima, each of them has its own documentation, a kind of passport that registers each of the images across the planet.
