Saint Cono, also known as Saint Cuneus or Saint Canus, is a Catholic saint revered as the patron saint of footballers. His feast is celebrated on January 29th.
Not much is known about the life of Saint Cono, but according to legend, he was a Christian hermit who lived in the third century in the Apulia region of Italy. He was known for his piety and ability to perform miracles, and was said to heal the sick and help the poor.
Saint Cono's association with gambling comes from a story in which he encountered a group of sailors who had lost all their money in a game of dice. Moved by the situation, he gave them a bag of gold, which they used to start a new life. As a result, he became known as the patron saint of gamblers and is often invoked by those who gamble in hopes of winning.
Here is a prayer for Saint Cono:
Dear Saint Cono, patron saint of players,
You who understand the thrill of risk and the hope of reward,
We ask for your intercession as we place our bets.
May we play with fairness and integrity,
And may we always remember to give thanks for our blessings,
Win or lose.
Guide us with your wisdom and protect us from temptation,
So that we can use our earnings for good and avoid the pitfalls of greed.
Saint Cono, pray for us and for all who seek your help,
On this day and always. Amen.
