Saint Philomena

Saint Philomena or Philomena of Rome is a Christian saint, virgin and martyr. Private revelations received by a servant of God and attested to by the Holy Office is how the church knows about her life. Her revelations tell that she was betrothed to Emperor Diocletian, but refused the marriage because she chose Jesus Christ for her husband. She was then kept in prison and tortured in various ways until her death by decapitation. Several miracles are attributed to Saint Philomena, the best known being the “Miracle of the Century” which occurred on August 10, 1835 with the cure of young Pauline-Marie Jaricot who was seriously ill with heart problems.
