LAST GREAT PILGRIMAGE OF THE SANCTUARY INTEGRATES TWO CULTURAL INITIATIVES: MULTIMEDIA PROJECTION "FATIMA-TIME OF LIGHT" AND TWO MUSIC PARTS

The Bishop of Leiria-Fátima, D. António Marto, will preside over the last great International Anniversary Pilgrimage of the Centenary, which will take place on October 12 and 13, under the theme "Mary Star of Evangelization".

In addition to the usual celebratory program, the Sanctuary of Fatima prepared an additional cultural program to welcome the pilgrims at a particularly festive time, as this pilgrimage is part of the Closing Ceremony of the Centenary Celebrations.

The multimedia project "Fátima-Tempo de Luz", produced by the Spanish company Acciona Producciones y Design, can be seen in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima on the nights of October 12, 13 and 14, and combines projection mapping, lighting effects and original soundtrack.

The screening will premiere on Thursday, October 12, after the Procession of Silence, after midnight, and will also be seen on October 13 and 14 at 10:30 pm, after the Candles Procession. All sessions will be open for free to pilgrims in general.

The façade of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, 140 meters wide and 58 meters high, will form a projection screen of 3100 m2, converted into the backbone of a story that aims to awaken the light of Fatima in the heart of every believer, drawing him closer to the heart of God. In this way, the facade of the Basilica will acquire a special light to remember the evolution of this place in the last hundred years, reconstructing the most important historical and spiritual landmarks related to the appearance of the Virgin Mary in the Cova da Iria.

The projection is idealized from the experience of thousands of pilgrims who visit the Sanctuary every year and is composed of seven scenes: "The reflection of the light of God"; "The Immaculate and triumphant Heart of Mary leads to God"; "The Church sings the Message of Fatima"; "The ways of the pilgrims"; "At Fatima we hear a message of peace for the world"; "At Fatima we celebrate the God who is close to the human being" and "In Fátima we lighten our heart".
For the audiovisual projection, 22 projectors will be used - 10 of them of 22,000 lumens each and another 12,000,000 - with a total power of 580,000 lumens and a resolution of 15,900 pixels. Likewise, the show will have a total installed power of 137,200 watts of sound and 16,800 watts of illumination.

On the 13th, and after the liturgical celebrations, the Shrine promotes the Solemn Closing Session of the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Apparitions at 6:30 pm in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, which can be followed by all the pilgrims in the screens scattered throughout enclosure of Prayer.

The meeting will be attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the bishop of the Diocese of Leiria-Fátima, António Marto, and numerous guests, a concert by the Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Choir, directed by Joana Carneiro that presents in its alignment, among others, two works commissioned to the composers James MacMillan and Eurico Carrapatoso: The Sun Danced and Salve Regina, respectively.

The Concert will also have a live broadcast to the Prayer Hall so that all pilgrims can enjoy this musical moment that celebrates the Centenary of the Apparitions of the Virgin to the three Little Shepherds.
This unique concert also counts on the participation of the soprano Elisabete Matos.
On stage will be 72 instruments and 32 singers, directed by the teacher Joana Carneiro. The two composers of the works, which will be premiered, will also be present.

For logistical reasons, the Sanctuary of Fátima informs that between 9:00 am on October 12, and throughout the 13th, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima will be closed, making it impossible to visit the tomb of the children. On that day, the Rosary will not be recited at 6:30 pm in the Chapel of the Apparitions.
The liturgical program of the International Anniversary Pilgrimage includes several moments presided over by the Bishop of Leiria-Fatima.

This pilgrimage evokes the sixth apparition of Our Lady to the little shepherds, in the Cova da Iria.
